Karen Lerner, Regional VP of Pressure Prevention at Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, Port Washington, NY, will speak at the Alpine Rehab Conference at DoubleTree Salt Lake City Airport Hotel on October 4-5, according to a company announcement.

During the 2-day conference, Lerner, RN, MSN, ATP, CWS, will discuss topics concerning pressure injuries and wound care in bariatric patients, support surfaces, fall prevention, Medicare and insurance.

In Lerner’s first course, “Befuddled about Support Surfaces? Become an Expert,” she will discuss the importance of knowing how and when to recommend and evaluate the clinical effectiveness and efficacy of various support surfaces to help healthcare professionals prevent pressure injuries and help these kinds of injuries heal faster.

In her next course, “Bariatrics: Pressure Injuries and Wound Care Considerations,” she will present strategies and evidence to enhance the chance of successful outcomes for clinicians and providers who care for these patients, while also touching on the dynamics of bariatrics, solutions for choosing appropriate equipment, caring for the bariatric patient’s skin, and more, per the release.

Course three, titled, “Unscrambling the Medicare and Insurance Mystery: How to Procure DME for Your Clients/Patients,” will inform healthcare professionals of the current Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) policies for commonly ordered durable medical equipment (DME)/rehab equipment, such as mobility assistive devices, beds, support surfaces and patient transfer devices. It will also define what clinicians need to know and document tohelp procure the products for their patients.

Lerner’s final course, “Evidence-Based Fall Prevention,” will review the available evidence of various fall prevention systems implemented through the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), American Nurses Association (ANA) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to effectively decrease falls and fall-related injuries in older adults, the release continues.
