The R90 has numerous unique features that truly benefit the riders of manual wheelchairs. The R90 sits discreetly below the seat, thus maintaining the chair’s original size and turning circle. This means the user can maneuver forward, backward, and 360 degrees with minimal drag or hang-up.

The patent-pending V-Lock is a tapered latch that securely docks the R90 to the receiver on the chair. Combined with the ergonomic, easy-grasp handle, upright orientation, and rolling tire, the R90 can be attached easily and securely, according to the company. And when the R90 is not needed, the user can raise the wheel for zero rolling resistance with the patent-pending wheel up function. While the R90 is made to be easy to remove entirely, the company says it’s even easier to raise the wheel with the push of a button and keep it on the chair all day.

The wireless control box links seamlessly to the R90 with a reliable Bluetooth connection. The push-button propulsion is made to allow the user to start and control speed easily. Designed for safety and ease of use, the control box with its ergonomic push buttons can be mounted on the frame tube anywhere convenient to the user.

The removable battery makes the R90 lighter to carry and provides the ability to swap out to go even further—up to 19.5 miles (31.4 km) with the extended battery. The standard battery meets current regulations to be carried on a plane* and has a range of up to 9.8 miles (15.7 km).

The Sunrise Intelligence App allows users to select the performance profile that best suits their environment, whether for indoors or outside. The preset drive profiles are tailored for specific environments for speed, torque, and slope thresholds. The App also shows battery charge, so users always know when they need to recharge.

“All these features make the R90 easy to use, but the real highlight is its versatility,” says Bernd Krebs, chief technology officer at Sunrise Medical. “We did extensive field testing, and our riders enjoyed the great maneuverability, compactness, and range, as well as the wheel up function.”
