A recent AOTA news release reports that throughout the week, the organization aims to promote a different aspect of older driver safety. The AOTA notes that these aspects include identifying changes that can affect driving, such as changes in physical, emotional, or cognitive health.
It will also address how occupational therapy (OT) practitioners can assist older adults in maintaining their driving safety and community mobility. Additional aspects of older driver safety that the week-long event will reportedly address include family conversations and the key role family and friends play in discussions about older driver safety.
The AOTA notes that a focus on screening and evaluations with an OT, assistance in taking driving-related changes in stride, and equipment designed to empower drivers and promote safety on the road will also be showcased during the week.
