The Helen Hayes Hospital Adapted Sports & Recreation Program, along with the New York Rangers Sled Hockey Team, offer a sled hockey program set to begin in early 2017.

Free sled hockey training sessions will take place on January 5th and 19th and February 9th from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at Madison Square Garden Training Center—the New York Rangers’ training center in Greenburgh, NY, notes a media release from Helen Hayes Hospital.

The New York Rangers Sled Hockey Team was created as a joint effort of the New York Rangers and the Wheelchair Sports Federation to enable adults and children with disabilities the opportunity to play ice hockey. The team competes in the Northeast Sled Hockey League while wearing the New York Rangers jersey.

During the training sessions, members of the New York Rangers Sled Hockey Team will provide participants with hands-on instruction in how to play sled hockey, as well as the use of all safety pads and equipment.

The sessions are open to participants of all levels, and adapted equipment will be provided. Pre-registration is required, however.
