als-walkThe 2013 Walk to Defeat ALS season recently launched in February and is slated to continue through November, featuring 170 local events in communities nationwide. The events are intended to provide an opportunity to raise awareness about Lou Gehrig’s Disease and to support the mission of The ALS Association. According to a recent news release from the Association, its nationwide signature event is designed to offer hope to individuals living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and an opportunity for families and friends to share a day with others in the ALS community. The ALS Association notes that Pride Mobility Products Corporation, Quantum Rehab, and Phi Delta Fraternity are among its Premier National Teams for 2013.

The release also reports that in 2012, the Association saw approximately 121,000 individuals participate in its walks to provide support for the organization, raising $21.7 million in support of care services, ALS research, and public policy efforts at the federal, state, and local events.

Jane H. Gilbert, president and CEO, ALS Association, emphasizes that, “Walking to defeat this devastating disease provides a sense of empowerment and an actionable way to help.”
