A September 15 webinar presented by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) is designed to provide information to participants about some of the latest advancements in power wheelchair electronics. The “Power Wheelchairs: Mouse Emulation” webinar will also address how these features can assist clients in enhancing functionality.
According to the RESNA website, the webinar will place a primary focus on mouse emulation to control a computer or speech-generating device. The site notes that mouse emulation is sometimes built-in or available as an optional feature on complex power wheelchair electronics. External mouse emulators can be interfaced as well, according to the site.
Learning outcomes for the webinar include the ability to describe the difference between proportional and digital cursor movement, the ability to describe the difference between three- and four-quadrant control, and the ability to describe the advantages and disadvantages between internal and external mouse emulators.
Michelle L. Lange, OTR, ABDA, ATP/SMS, will serve as the webinar’s instructor. Lange is an occupational therapist in private practice at Access to Independence, Inc.
