The  “6 Steps to Better Balance Program” has several scheduled stops throughout the United States scheduled this spring, including an upcoming date for audiences in Kentucky and Southern Indiana June 14 at Better Body Fitness Center, Louisville, Ky.

The Kentucky Board of Licensure for Occupational Therapist (KBLOT) and the Kentucky Physical Therapist Association (KPTA) also reportedly have approved this workshop for eight Continuing Education Units (CEUs), according to Grace Carswell, MA, OTR, owner of Better Body Fitness Center.

“6 Steps to Better Balance” is described as an evidenced-based program that utilizes repetitive practice of a series of movements and simple exercises, such as the “Chorus Line” and “Dancing with a Pillow,” to help older adults gain better balance. It is designed to reduce the probability of falls, the fear of falling, and fall-related injuries. It also aims to increase body flexibility, leg strength, and overall endurance.

Workshops are also scheduled for Hermitage, Pa, June 12; Rochester, NY, June 19; Oneida, NY, June 20; and Sherwood, Ore, June 28.

The Louisville workshop is  presented by Sharon Claye, who will teach material oriented toward fitness instructors as well as independent personal trainers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, activity directors, and anyone interested in helping older adults avoid falling and improve their confidence and independence, according to a media release from Fall Prevention Training Services LLC.

“Every 14 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall,” Claye says. “These accidents can be dramatically reduced through learning this set of easy, yet effective, exercises. Older adults need no longer live in fear of falling.”

“We look forward to offering the “6 Steps to Better Balance Program” because it offers enjoyable activities rather than ‘have-to’ exercises, which will make it fun for our older adults,” Carswell says.

Registration information is available online.
