Individuals who are affected by limb loss have renewed assurance that clinics devoted to running and mobility will continue to be supported under a recent agreement between prosthetics manufacturer, Össur, Foothill Ranch, Calif, and the San Diego, Calif-based Challenged Athletes Foundation. According to a media release from CAF the multi-year global sponsorship agreement sustains a long-standing effort between the two organizations that to support people affected by limb loss.

Ossur chief executive officer Jon Sigurdsson stated in the media release that Ossur and CAF has worked jointly for more than 20 years to improve the lives of people with lower-limb loss with the aim of helping them experience the benefits of “life without limitations.”

“We are pleased to be continuing our collaboration with CAF by extending this agreement and increasing our overall support for this valued partner,” Sigurdsson adds.

Perhaps the most notable windfall of the Össur-CAF agreement is a series of Össur Running and Mobility Clinics, presented by CAF. These clinics are conducted annually across the United Staes, and feature amputee rehabilitation experts Bob Gailey and Peter Harsch. Gailey and Harsch work to teach amputees at varying levels of ability how to achieve their mobility goals, according to the Ossur media release.

Participants are said to work side-by-side with volunteer clinical professionals and world-class parathletes in a safe and encouraging environment, learning proper running form and techniques through what is described as “fun drills and exercises.” Ossur reports that in 2014, more than 300 participants attended the clinics.

“CAF is dedicated to helping people with physical challenges live full, active lives through participation in fitness activities and competitive sports,” says Virginia Tinley, CAF’s Executive Director. “The Össur Running and Mobility Clinics we present are a wonderful means of fulfilling our organization’s mission, and we are pleased to be continuing this collaboration, so that even more amputees may benefit from the right to participate in physical activities.”

So far six Össur-CAF clinics have been confirmed for 2015. Among sites that have already been named are Washington DC, New York, Tucson, Ariz, Boston, San Francisco, and San Diego. According to the Ossur media release, participation at all Össur Running and Mobility Clinics presented by CAF is free, however, advance registration is required for attendees and volunteers.
