The National Republican Congressional Committtee selected Shashank Arya, MD, as their 2006 Physician of the Year Honoree. The award was presented to Arya March 15 at the 2007 National Republican Congressional Committee Republican Business Summit.

Arya is a specialist in sports medicine, spine, electrodiagnostics and orthopedic rehabilitation and director of rehabilitation at Casa Colina Center for Rehabilitation in Pomona, Calif. He joins a national panel of other physician honorees to serve on a congressional committee that will convene in Washington, DC, to discuss strategies to optimize healthcare and advocate for patients with rehabilitative needs.

The recognition was given to Arya as a result of patient and constituent recommendations submitted to the committee. President George W. Bush attended the event where Congressman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) presented the award to Arya.
