Magee Rehabilitation Hospital celebrated the opening of its Creative Therapy Center and Healing Gardens with an open house event on May 17.

The $4.2 million facility, located on Philadelphia-based Magee Rehabilitation’s sixth-floor rooftop, is described in a media release as an outside space for Magee patients and their families, where they can gather, relax, eat, talk, reflect, work toward their therapy goals, or just hang out, outside of their hospital room.

The space features: four different-sized healing gardens, each with its own unique focus; a Three-Seasons Therapy area; multiple raised, accessible planter gardens; an Art Therapy Studio and two Art Therapy Galleries to showcase work done by patients.

Additional features include a Spirituality Center and outdoor Meditation Garden; an outdoor “Avenue,” featuring views of downtown Philadelphia; a renovated Greenhouse; and roof protection to the facility’s Segal Street, an outdoor city streetscape where patients can practice navigating curbs, terrain, and getting in and out of cars.

Those interested in attending the open-house event are asked to contact Marissa Montenegro Matteo at [email protected] or (215) 873-7891.
