convaidConvaid Inc, headquartered in Torrance, Calif, has teamed up Staten Island-based Girl Scout Troop 5227 in an effort to assist troop members whose wheelchairs were ruined during Hurricane Sandy. Troop member Hayley Rodenfeld, aged 7 years old, initially reached out to Convaid for donations and assistance to support her fellow members and neighbors, according to a recent news release.

The release notes that Convaid plans to deliver the wheelchairs on December 22 to Home Medical Equipment, Garden City, NY. Chris Braun, president, Convaid, adds that the company knew once it was contacted by the troop and Home Medical Equipment, it was going to do what it could to help, particularly as, “Hurricane Sandy has had devastating effects to many people on the east coast and we are very happy that we can contribute to rebuilding the community,” Braun says.

Rodenfeld’s own efforts to help reflect her belief that as a Girl Scout, “we always help people at all times and are a sister to every Girl Scout.” She adds that she aims to put a plan in place to assist all children with special needs and their families from her troop who were directly affected by the hurricane. “Locating and delivering special needs equipment for the children is on top of that list,” Rodenfeld says.
