Casamba and Kno2 announce the integration of Kno2’s interoperability service with Casamba’s EMR solutions, to help enhance care coordination for outpatient physical and occupational therapy clinics.

Casamba’s outpatient therapy EMR – Casamba Clinic (formerly TherapySource) – is now powered by Kno2: Interoperability as a Service, enabling the use of standards-based exchange methods including direct messaging, patient information query for providers live on Carequality, including those connected through CommonWell Health Alliance, patient care networks such as ACOs and HIEs and cloud faxing.

The integration empowers Casamba customers to immediately turn on connectivity to healthcare providers allowing customers to send, receive, find, and use patient information with everyone within the network from the Casamba Clinic platform.

Therapy clinics will now be able to exchange any type of content – from PDFs to structured data files that can be absorbed directly into the patient’s record – with their referral sources and any other healthcare provider, according to a media release from Casamba and Kno2.

“We have partnered with Kno2 to allow our customers a path to interoperability. Paper faxing is not only obsolete, but an unsecure way to exchange PHI,” says Billie Nutter, president of Agoura Hills,Calif-based Casamba, in the release.

“The current patient data exchange process among outpatient therapy clinics and other healthcare providers is costly, inefficient and prone to errors; this can have a direct negative impact on patient outcomes. Our partnership with Kno2 is a big step towards solving this problem and helping the industry move towards interoperability,” Nutter adds.

The Casamba – Kno2 integration workflow was designed specifically for outpatient therapy use cases. It vastly improves the efficiency of data exchange, eliminating the need to print and receive paper faxes, scan, sort paper documents, shred, and manually track documents. This integration could streamline the entire process, saving a significant amount of time for front desk staff personnel and clinicians so that they can better focus on serving patients, according to the companies.

“The industry recognizes the vital role that outpatient therapy clinics play in patient outcomes and is looking for a rapid and affordable way to bring that missing care data into the longitudinal patient record. Casamba Clinic has an outstanding reputation in the outpatient therapy industry, and we are proud to help them make the leap to full interoperability,” states Jon Elwell, CEO of Kno2, in the release.
