A Cross Country Education webinar offers participants a comprehensive review of the interrelated factors that lead to falls and injuries at home. The Cross Country Education website notes that the webinar, “A Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Approach to Understanding and Preventing Fall-Related Injuries In and Around the Home,” aims to provide insight into the primary cause of falls, such as poor or impaired vision, vestibular issues, adverse drug interactions and polymedication issues, declining balance and functional ambulation, and cognitive decline.

Upon completion of the webinar, the site says, attendees will understand the multiple obstacles that lead to falls and injuries, and be able to make sensible abatement recommendations to mitigate them, therefore enhancing home safety. Attendees will also learn about emerging practice trends in telehealth and telemedicine.

Course objectives include listing the leading causes of falls among home-bound patients, recognizing the impact polymedication and adverse drug reactions have on falls among the aged population, and describing the benefits of telehealth, telemedicine, as well as medical surveillance for maximizing access to healthcare services and monitoring patients with several comorbidities. Additionally, participants will identify what impairs functional mobility in and around the home.

Speaker Jose R. Rafols, OTD, MHSA, OTR/L, has more than 28 years of experience in clinical orthopedics and 18 years of experience in upper-extremity rehabilitation, hand injuries, diabetic foot and wound care, neurological injuries, traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), geriatrics, and adult rehabilitation.
