In a news release issued by Seton Hall University, its School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) highlights the establishment of the new Center for Interprofessional Education in Health Sciences (CIEHS) and the Institute for Advanced Study of Rehabilitation and Sports Science (IASRSS). The release notes that the CIEHS and IASRSS will blend the educational, research, community engagement, and servant leadership missions linked to their specific areas of focus.

The new center and institute are also intended to highlight Seton Hall’s commitment to providing quality educational opportunities and achieving notable outcomes.

CIEHS, the release says, finds its roots in the SHMS faculty-led Task Force on Interprofessional Education’s (IPE) strategic planning efforts, designed to facilitate meaningful and cross-disciplinary educational and research experiences for students, faculty, and clinical partners in order to further develop SHMS’ patient-centered care mission. Key goals currently underway by the CIEHS include innovative research, productive scholarship, and the creation of several “Core Signature IPE Experiences.”

The release reports that the IASRSS is intended to offer an interdisciplinary forum for the conduct of clinical research centered on injuries that result from individuals’ participation in recreational exercise or competitive sports, as well as research targeting physiological and biomechanical elucidation of novel or minimally explored topics in sports medicine, exercise, movement science, or physical rehabilitation. A vital component of IASRSS will also target the fostering of interprofessional dialogue regarding contemporary issues in sports, exercise, and physical rehabilitation through hosted journal clubs, continuing education seminars, and outreach within and beyond the Seton Hall community.
