The Abilities Expo in Chicago, June 27 to 29, is set to exhibit the latest products and services for individuals with a wide variety of disabilities. The expo’s line-up includes exhibits, celebrities, workshops, events, and activities.

David Korse, president and CEO of the Abilities Expo, explains that the expo’s appeal goes beyond providing a forum showcasing technology to bridge the gap between ability and disability, “The Expo is always new and exciting with a host of all-inclusive, adaptive activities.”

The expo is also scheduled to feature a series of workshops intended to address disability issues, including travel, home modifications, technology, and intensive physical therapy. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore products and services such as mobility products, devices for individuals with developmental disabilities, medical equipment, home accessories, essential services, low-cost daily living aids, and products for individuals with sensory impairments. An Assistive Technology Showcase will also provide users hands-on experience with a range of devices, the release says.

Martial arts, dance, and the opportunity to race radio-controlled cars and play adaptive sports, as well as other special events will be featured at the expo.

The release reports that celebrities slated to attend the expo include Chelsie Hill of the Sundance Channel’s show Push Girls, Mike Berkson and Tim Wamback, stars of the stage show Handicap This!, and Brody Roybal of the 2014 US Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, which competed in the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Additionally, Karen Kain, author of A Unique Life Fully Lived, the story of her journey with her daughter Lorrin, who was vaccine-injured at 6 weeks old, and Julie-Ann Braun, author of Fallen Angel Rising, an autobiography focused on overcoming “your demons and reaching beyond them” are scheduled to attend and host book signings.

“The Expo provides the community of people with disabilities access to life-enhancing products, education, resources, and fun. Most of all, it’s a celebration of what you can do, not what you can’t do,” Korse says.

A news release issued by the Abilities Expo states that complimentary loaner scooters, wheelchair repair, and a power chair charging station will also be available during show hours.
