trophy111Ottobock, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn, reports in a news release that it recently received the 2013 Econ Award in recognition of its excellence in public relations for its London 2012 “Passion for Paralympics” campaign.

Key highlights in the campaign included 45,000 visitors to the Ottobock Passion for Paralympics exhibition in London, 83,000 visitors who viewed 210,000 pages on the Passion for Paralympic website, more than 200,000 YouTube views, media coverage both in print in broadcast that reached 781 million viewers globally, and 1.2 million visitors to the Ottobock Topic Zone at the London Science Museum.

The company notes that its commitment to the Paralympics found its roots at the Seoul 1998 Paralympic Games, during which four prosthetists from Australia recognized the need for repair and maintenance of Paralympic athletes’ equipment during competition. To address these needs, the prosthetists reportedly set up service in an improvised workshop. Since then, the company’s technical service has grown, and by London 2012 it encompassed a multi-national team of 80 technicians speaking 20 languages and working out of workshops in three Athletes’ Villages and nine training and competition venues supported by a mobile unit.

Ottobock adds that the presentation of the Econ Award also marks its 25th anniversary as a partner to the Paralympic Games and its preparation to provide technical service and educational programs in Russia for the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games.
