Natividad Medical Center, based in Salinas, Calif, announces that its Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Center has topped the list of Kindred Healthcare’s 107 hospital-based inpatient rehab units across the country for clinical excellence in 2016.

The Kindred Healthcare ranking is based on quality of care metrics from each site, including Case Mix Index, Functional Independence Measure, Average Daily Census, and the Discharge Rate.

NMC’s Acute Rehab Center, which currently operates at a 95% occupancy rate, achieved the award by receiving top scores in Key Performance Indicators ranging from patient acuity to occupancy rate, according to a media release from Natividad Medical Center.

Additional factors in receiving the award include a discharge to home rate of 83%, which surpasses Kindred’s benchmark of 7%. The facility’s patients have also seen functional independence scores of over 35, which indicate a high level of independence and probability of successful discharge, according to the release.

“We are extremely honored to receive the top recognition from Kindred Healthcare, an organization known for its wide breadth of high-performing facilities nationwide,” says Michelle Toderick, program director of NMC’s Acute Rehabilitation Center. “This is not only a great testament to the hospital, but a recognition of the excellent patient care provided by our team of skilled doctors, therapists, and rehab nurses.”
