Kevin Carroll, MS, CP, FAAOP, vice president of prosthetics at Hanger Clinic, delivered the undergraduate commencement address to students of Hamden, Conn-based Quinnipiac University’s School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing May 17. During the ceremony, he also received a honorary doctorate of humane letters degree, according to a press release from Hanger Inc.
“It was an honor and a pleasure to have Kevin Carroll receive an honorary doctoral degree from Quinnipiac University in recognition of his decades of service to individuals with limb loss,” says Kimberly Hartmann, interim dean of the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac, in the release. “His address to the graduates inspired virtues that he himself has lived by: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and compassion. His patient stories illustrated how these virtues improved the quality and meaningfulness of the lives of many children and adults nationally and internationally.”
“Being asked to address the next generation of nurses, healthcare practitioners, and biomedical scientists is an unbelievable honor,” Carroll states, in the release. “These men and women have chosen an exciting career field that will allow them to improve people’s lives and be part of the rewarding process of moving health care forward. I wish them all the best.”
Carroll, who works as a prosthetics expert and is reported to have more than 30 years’ experience developing artificial limbs, educating the prosthetics community, and working to improve the lives of amputees, will return to Quinnipiac University in July for the Camp No Limits event. In the release from Hanger, Hartmann describes the event as one that will be “devoted to critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and compassion to help children with limb loss learn that their potential is in fact limitless.”
