A lightweight, foldable electric wheelchair engineered to optimize portability is available through the Los Angeles-based company Smart Chair. The company’s product of the same name weighs 50 pounds and is designed to fold up easily to fit in the trunk of a car or SUV.
A news release from the company notes that the Smart Chair uses a lightweight lithium ion battery and has a turning radius of 31.5 inches to accommodate both outdoor and indoor use. The company states that the Smart Chair also offers a weight capacity of up to 250 pounds and a maximum speed of 3.75 miles an hour. The product is comprised of Anti-Tilt wheels in the rear and can reportedly handle slopes up to 12 degrees.
The product can also serve as a companion or secondary device for users who already own an older electric wheelchair, the company adds.
