New England Rehabilitation Hospital (NERH), Woburn, Mass, scored in the top 5% of all rehabilitation hospitals in the United States, according to a major customer satisfaction survey.

The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) formal public reporting initiative asks patients to rate their experiences with respect to various health care delivery systems.

NERH’s score, which represents patient survey results from the first quarter of 2011, indicates that patient satisfaction is above that of 95% of the rehabilitation hospitals in the country. It represents a dramatic improvement from its percentile ranking for the same time period in 2008.

The survey, conducted by Press Ganey, addresses patient satisfaction in a wide variety of areas, including physician care and availability, nursing care, diet and meals, all forms of therapy (occupational, physical and speech/language), psychology, and various personal issues.

"This new ranking underscores our commitment to patient satisfaction," said Joel Rudin, CEO of NERH. "We know we are putting the patient first in every aspect at our facility. This score indicates that our patients recognize that commitment."
