In recognition of the month of May as National Stroke Awareness Month, HealthONE Stroke Care, headquartered in Denver, Colo, recently introduced an online assessment tool, the Stroke Risk Profiler, designed for adults of all ages. A HealthONE news release notes that Denver-area residents seeking additional information about their risk of stroke and symptoms to be aware of can click here to take a short assessment. Users can also learn about the impact of stroke, explore their personal risk factors, and learn how to mitigate these risks.

Chris Fanale, MD, HealthONE and CO-DOC medical doctor, emphasizes that many studies indicate 80% of strokes can be prevented through risk factor management. Fanale adds that the rate of public awareness of stroke warning signs and risk factors, however, remains low. “A stroke is an emergency! It’s important to learn stroke warning signs and how to respond to them,” Fanale says.

The news release also highlights the Face Arm Speech Time (FAST) test as a key method in recognizing stroke-warning signs. Fanale also notes that implementing immediate medical care is vital and patients’ outcomes and recovery are far greater the quicker that the stroke can be evaluated and treated.
