Dralla Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Rockaway, NJ-based Allard USA, announces the addition of Wendy Garrett of Turner, Ore, to its Review Board. Founded by Allard USA President Peter Allard, Dralla Foundation has awarded grants to other non-profits that share its mission since 2011. Its mission is to make unforgettable days possible for adults and children with physical challenges by partnering with non-profit organizations and providing funding to support their events. The board reviews grant requests and subsequently awards those grants on an annual basis. Garrett spent most of her life doing gymnastics and is now a gymnastics coach. She was always very active until an injury almost derailed her back in 2011. While living and coaching gymnastics in Bermuda, she was riding her motorized scooter to work when she was hit by a car and pinned under the scooter. After seeing many doctors, she finally received a diagnosis of foot drop. With that diagnosis, she was prescribed an Allard ToeOFF AFO. Since then, not only has she become active again, but in 2018, she completed the Abbott World Marathon Majors, a series of six of reportedly the most prestigious marathons in the world. She will be an asset to the board in that she will assess applications from the perspective of someone with a mobility challenge, according to a media release from Dralla Foundation. “I am extremely honored to be joining Dralla Foundation as a board member,” Garrett says in the release. “I’ve been the recipient of receiving support and assistance from various organizations that helped me gain confidence in my disability and allowed me to live my life to the fullest. I am so grateful for this opportunity to pay it forward! “My passion is helping others and reminding everyone that we can do hard things,” she adds. “Dralla Foundation creates unforgettable memories, and I’m extremely grateful to be a part of that.” [Source: Dralla Foundation]
