The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM ), Calabasas, Calif, and its higher-education partner, California University of Pennsylvania (CalU), introduce a new higher education award program for current and former military service members interested in obtaining a master of science degree in one of CalU’s four health and fitness Internet-based tracks: Fitness and Wellness; Sports Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention; Rehabilitation Science; or Sports Psychology.
“We are pleased to offer this higher education opportunity for an individual who has honorably served, or still does, as a member of the US military and has an interest in pursuing a career in the health and fitness industry,” said Micheal Clark, DPT, MS, PT, CES, PES, CPT, NASM CEO, in a statement. “The military instilled in these individuals the importance of health and physical fitness, in addition to a disciplined approach to the profession. Now, by way of this new program one individual will be able to share their knowledge in a way that will help others live healthier lives.”
Valued at more than $15,000, the inaugural Military Pursuit of Excellence in Health and Fitness Award program was developed as part of a collaborative effort between NASM and CalU. Recognized by GI Jobs as a military friendly school and powered by NASM’s evidence-based fitness programs and research, this program provides past and current members of the US military with several methods to advance their careers in several specialized areas.
“Whether a former service member who is juggling the demands of civilian life, or an active member of the military, this award allows recipients the flexibility needed to advance their education and ultimately their career, anytime, from anywhere in the world,” said Barry McGlumphy, program coordinator and associate professor for exercise science and health promotion at the California University of Pennsylvania, California, Pa.
Applications are now being accepted and are due by November 1. Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree prior to November 1 to be eligible.
