A new, free webinar centered on pressure ulcer prevention is slated for November 21, according to a news release from Mölnlycke Health Care US. The manufacturer of advanced wound care will present the webinar, which will address the prevention of pressure ulcers in the ED, OR, and ICU with evidence-based solutions for the heel, sacrum, and other bony prominences.
C. Tod Brindle, MSN, RN, CWOCN, ET, and Nick Santamaria, RN, PhD, are slated to lead the webinar, examining risk factors linked to hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in departments like the OR and the ED.
A news release from the company also reports that Brindle and Santamaria will examine incidence rates and preventable actions that can be taken for other bony prominences than the sacrum and data supporting the use of prevention protocols compared with the cost of treatment.
The release states that Brindle is a wound and ostomy consultant for Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center Wound Care Team. Brindle lectures nationally and internationally in his specialty areas of complex abdominal wound and fistula management, as well as pressure ulcer prevention in high-risk populations. Brindle has also been recognized with the Manuscript of the Year award in 2013 from the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing and received the 2013 Magnet Prize for Exemplary Professional Practice in Nursing.
Santamaria is a professor of nursing research and translational research at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. Santamaria’s research reportedly centers on the prevention of pressure ulcers in critically ill trauma patients in the ICU.
The release also states the webinar is presented in tandem with the annual Stop Pressure Ulcer Day, intended to support global efforts to improve patient care.
