The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Rockville, Md, has scheduled in March an online conference spotlighting autism spectrum disorders.

The online event, which is to be held from March 1 to 15, 2010, focuses on assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young adults with autism spectrum disorders (age 2 to 21), addressing the full range of communication levels.

Expert speakers will address topics in assessment/diagnosis, intervention approaches, and service delivery models, all with an emphasis on the speech-language pathologist’s role. The presenters will discuss which approaches are supported by current research, and interact with speakers and participants from around the world.

The conference is a variable CEU event, so the number of ASHA CEUs or professional development hours (PDHs) that can be earned depends on how many of the CEU components are completed. The CEU components of the conference include prerecorded lectures, live chats with presenters, and selected readings (identified as CEU-eligible). ASHA is in the process of finalizing the conference program, but according to the Web site, the total will be 3.0 ASHA CEUs (30 PDHs).
