Encompass Health Corp announces it has placed land under contract and plans to build a freestanding, 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, to be named Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Jacksonville.
Complementing local acute care services, the hospital will care for patients recovering from illnesses and injuries including strokes and other neurological disorders, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital will provide physical, occupational and speech therapies that aim to restore functional ability and quality of life and 24‑hour care by registered nurses, many of whom are certified in rehabilitation nursing.
The medical staff will be comprised of physicians experienced in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as other specialties such as internal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease and nephrology to assist in the medical management and support a complex patient population.
“We look forward to building this state‑of‑the‑art hospital, for which the design is based off our experience serving approximately 190,000 rehabilitation patients annually in our 136 hospitals throughout the nation and Puerto Rico. We are also excited to begin caring for patients in the Jacksonville area and augmenting the already strong healthcare delivery system in the area.”
— Linda Wilder, president of Encompass Health’s southeast region
The hospital will feature all private patient rooms, a therapy gym with advanced rehabilitation technologies, and an activities of daily living suite, cafeteria, dining room, pharmacy and therapy courtyard.
The planned hospital, once opened, will become part of Encompass Health’s national network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and home health and hospice agencies. The Company’s Florida footprint currently includes 12 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, 19 home health locations, one hospital under construction in north Tampa, and one hospital under construction in Pensacola. The hospital is expected to begin serving patients in the second half of 2022.
