In a move to expand its long-term care division, Port Washington, NY-based Drive Medical has completed a deal to acquire the business of Primus Medical. As part of the deal: Mark Shaw, president and chief operating officer of Primus and Dan Halas, vice president of sales of Primus, will join the Drive Medical management team, according to a media release from Drive Medical.

Primus is described by a Drive Medical statement as a company that manufactures long-term care products such as full-function low beds, bariatric beds, lifts and chairs, therapeutic air and foam mattresses, lifts, slings and safety products. Primus is also the manufacturer of the PrimePlus B1750 High Capacity Bed and PrimeCare B901 High/Low Bed.

In a media release from Drive Medical, Harvey Diamond, chairman and chief executive officer of the company states, “This acquisition provides Drive with a complete portfolio of high-quality long-term care beds, and will position Drive as a major manufacturer in this rapidly-growing market.  With Drive’s broad-based product offering and the addition of the Primus long-term care beds, Drive will now be able to offer a full array of long-term care products.”

Shaw, who will be joining Drive Medical, says the partnership will benefit Primus customers. “They will now enjoy the value that comes with an expanded portfolio of products, significant resources, market expertise, and an extensive distribution network throughout North America,” Shaw notes.
