MediConnect Global Inc, Salt Lake City, has acquired PassportMD Inc, South Jordan, Utah, a consumer-directed health care information company with software for creating and maintaining personal health records. PassportMD has been selected by the Obama Administration to provide electronic personal health records for Medicare beneficiaries and is one of four vendors chosen to participate in the pilot program.
MediConnect pioneered the process of transferring paper records into a unified, secure electronic format delivered over the Internet, according to the company, which says it serves some of the largest health payers and life insurance carriers in the United States.
PassportMD personal health record accounts help people to collect and enter past medical information, such hospital and physician visits, lab results, and prescriptions, and users can access health care information about their medical conditions, symptoms, and treatment options, says the company.
MediConnect and PassportMD say they have experienced rapid growth in the emerging electronic medical records industry. MediConnect grew by nearly 800% from 2004 to 2008 and is number 172 on Deloitte LLP’s Technology Fast 500. It was cited by Inc magazine as one of the 500 fastest-growing US companies in 2007.
MediConnect Global is a medical records retrieval, scanning, and storage services provider. Its online RapidRetrieve system and patented processes provide medical records for consumers and to the health/life insurance and legal industries quickly over the Internet.
