An upcoming workshop presented by Summit Professional Education will focus on Medicare documentation requirements for part B therapy services. According to the online course description from Summit, the workshop is designed to provide attendees with the current Medicare guidelines for outpatient physical and occupational therapy services according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The course will also inform attendees of new changes for 2014 and provide details on the Medicare audit and appeals process.

The online course description also notes that the workshop will discuss PQRS (Physician Quality Reporting System) requirements and the functional reporting required in 2014 for G codes. The workshop will also examine how to document patient’s current level of function through the use of a patient-centered outcome measure.

The workshop will aim to facilitate the healthcare professional’s understanding of the medical review process and teach proper documentation of the medical necessity of therapy services. In addition, participants will practice writing patient goals and notes throughout the workshop, which will be discussed so the participant will be able to identify the changes that must be made with their own practice setting in order to become compliant with Medicare requirements.

The 1-day workshop will conclude with a session on measuring a patient’s current level of function using an outcome measure and reporting the findings to Medicare using G Codes.

The live workshops have a number of scheduled dates for 2014, including events in California, Nebraska, Nevada, Illinois, Virginia, and Minnesota. For additional course information or a schedule of dates, visit  http://summiteducation.reachlocal.com.
