sci-ed-stratA course offered through MedBridge Education LLC aims to provide clinicians the ability to identify key intervention strategies for patients with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). The “Comprehensive Intervention Strategies for Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries” course is slated to be led by J.J. Mowder-Tinney, PT, PhD, NCS, C/NDT, CSRS.

Mowder-Tinney is certified as a clinical specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS), Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), and Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist (CSRS).

According to MedBridge Education’s website, Mowder-Tinney will guide clinicians through a practical approach to rehabilitation for patients recovering post-SCI.

To provide comprehensive care, the course emphasizes the consideration of common complications of patients with SCI, causes of shoulder pain and prevention interventions, strategies for optimal movement for different level injuries, and exercise prescription. Demonstrations involving real patients with cervical and thoracic level injuries will also be featured during the course to illustrate interventions designed to optimize the independence of patients.

Learning objectives include describing key aspects of early rehabilitation for the SCI patient, comparing and contrasting outcome measures that can be used for varying levels/settings for SCI, designing an optimal strengthening program to address/prevent shoulder pain, and discussing practical strategies to utilize during retraining with patients with SCI. Additional objectives center on interventions for C4, C6, and Thoracic levels of injury.
