In recognition of Disability Employment Awareness Month, an October 31 free webinar seeks to provide participants information about applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) planning for a career after being unemployed. National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA), United Spinal Association’s membership division, and Allsup, a provider of SSDI representation, will host the webinar, “Back to Work with SSDI—It Doesn’t Have to be Scary!” It is slated for 3:00 to 4:00 pm EDT.
The webinar is designed to offer an overview of the current employment environment for individuals with disabilities and address common concerns voiced by SSDI beneficiaries regarding a return to work. The webinar also aims to pinpoint resources to assist in finding and maintaining employment, including the Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program.
Marlene Perkins, vice president of Corporate and Donor Relations, United Spinal, notes that the organization is proud to partner with Allsup in order to, “help individuals overcome the common misperceptions and fears about returning to work with a disability.”
Tai Venuti, webinar presenter, manager of Social Security disability benefits, Allsup, echoes Perkins’ sentiments and adds, “Just thinking about re-entering the workforce can be a scary proposition, but it doesn’t have to be.”
According to the Allsup Disability Study, Income at Risk, during the second quarter of 2013, individuals with disabilities experienced an unemployment rate of nearly 90% higher than individuals with no disabilities
