Professional Products Inc, DeFuniak Springs, Fla, introduces its new Pneumatic Knee Splint (PKS Cryo), a variable compression knee splint with a breathable, anti-migration wrap that helps offer relief from pain and edema in treating post-operative repairs, ligament, and soft tissue injuries, says a statement from the company.

The migration and sag of freezable gel can pose a problem for products that treat soft tissue injuries to the knee, but PKS Cryo’s  multiple compartment technology confines the gel to the optimal location for controlling edema, says the company. Cryotherapy is provided by the patented FirstICE continuous cold therapy system, whose ice packs deliver up to 4 hours of cold therapy, the company says.

The PKS Cryo also inflates and deflates via adjustable pneumatic support, which, combined with cryotherapy, helps to provide more effective control of edema than cryotherapy alone, says the statement.

The benefit of cryotherapy with peripheral compression increases when two modalities–cold and air–are used together, says the company. Velcro-compatible hyper foam with tricot lining and anti-migration strapping keeps the splink in place during patient ambulation. it adds.

The splint is available with a removable air-gel combo bag or fixed air bag with removable ice packs from the FirstICE cold therapy system.
