united-spinalUnited Spinal Association will host its ninth annual 2013 Kids Sports Spectacular, geared toward children and young adults with disabilities aged 4 to 21 years, August 17. The event is slated to be held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm EST.

The free, 1-day Kids Sports Spectacular is held indoors and features instruction and educational clinics about wheelchair basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, track and field, hand cycling, and karate.

A news release from United Spinal reports that participants will be provided instruction from professional wheelchair athletes, including US Paralympian Margaret “Maggie” Redden. Redden has competed in the Junior National Wheelchair Championships in track and field since the age of 5 years. Redden won a silver medal at the Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is currently the community outreach coordinator for Paralympic Sport Clubs NJ, according to the release.

Redden emphasizes that, “Sports teach so much more than how to excel on the competition the field. They teach time management, goal setting, sportsmanship, and perseverance. They provide a safe environment to grow and expand your horizons, no matter your ability level.”

Exhibitors expected to attend the event include Permobil, NSCIA (a program of United Spinal Association), NJ Paralympic Sports Club, MossRehab (Einstein Healthcare Network, and Bayada Home Health Care.
