During Rehacare International, International Trade Fair and Congress for Rehabilitation, Care, Prevention and Integration, Messe Düsseldorf will for the first time present the Rehacare Design Awards. The awards are intended to provide Rehacare Internatinal exhibitors with a strategic public relations and marketing instrument to effectively communicate the high quality of their products’ designs. All Rehacare International 2008 exhibitors are invited to submit their products for evaluation by a jury of international design and rehabilitation industry experts. Application forms will be sent out in May 2008. Rehacare International will be October 15 through October 18 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“With the Rehacare Design Award we give our exhibitors the opportunity to earn a high-calibre seal of quality. Our expert partner red dot projects has many years’ experience in organizing international design competitions,” explains Wilhelm Niedergöker, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf.

Exhibitors can enter their products in eight Rehacare Design Award 2008/2009 categories:

1. Daily living aids;

2. Communications;

3. Mobility;

4. Living environment and housing;

5. Education, recreation, sports and games;

6. Nursing and medical care;

7. Orthopedic aids;

8. hysical training, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

Technical aspects of the Rehacare Design Award 2008/2009 will be overseen and organized by red dot. The jury will reportedly consist of renowned design experts including Francesco Milani, Industrial Designer at Milani d&c in Switzerland, Markus Wild, Industrial Designer at WILDDESIGN in Germany and Dirk Schuhmann, Industrial Designer at Büro für industrielle Formentwicklung in Germany. Serving as the jury’s moderator will be Prof. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design awards and Senator of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) in Montreal.

Products whose design characteristics and innovative nature are particularly impressive will receive the Rehacare Design Award: Good Design and Rehacare Design Award: Best Design. Especially innovative products will be awarded the Rehacare Design Award: Best Innovation.

The award ceremony will be held during Rehacare International 2008. Recognition of the winners’ achievements will be provided in form of an official certificate. In addition, all award-winning products will be showcased at a special presentation during the trade fair as well as on a dedicated Internet portal and will later be published in an international industry handbook. Even before the show opens, winners will be entitled to use the label “Rehacare Design Award” to communicate the quality of their product’s designs in advance of the event.
