The Tribeca Film Festival recently announced that it would honor Kevin Carroll, MS, CP, FAAOP, vice president, Hanger Clinic, and Dan Strzempka, CPO, area practice manager for Hanger Clinic, at the Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards. The pair will be recognized for their work with engineers to develop WintersGel, a prosthetic liner that serves as an interface between the skin and prosthetic devices and was first created for the dolphin Winter, the animal star of the film Dolphin Tale. A recent news release adds that WintersGel has been adapted for human use and is designed to provide amputees with comfort and gentle adhesion.

The pair will join other honorees including Twitter and Square co-founder, CEO, Jack Dorsey, singer Justin Bieber, Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman, Def Jam founder Rick Rubin, and Steven A. Curley, MD, professor of surgical oncololgy, MD, FACS, Anderson Cancer Center, for his development of a potentially promising non-invasive nano-particle radio-wave cancer treatment.

The news release notes that the awards are designed to highlight successful disruptive innovation in non-traditional, identity-based domains such as culture, education, healthcare, philanthropy, politics, religion and social entrepreneurship.
