Athletes hailing from the Augusta area and the Southwest will have the opportunity to engage in the annual Wheelchair Tennis Championship, hosted June 16 and June 17 by the Augusta, Ga-based Walton Foundation for Independence. The event is slated to be held at the Newman Tennis Center. The Wheelchair Tennis Championship is a part of the Georgia Wheelchair Tennis Grand Prix, which also includes events in Atlanta and McDonough, culminating in the October Georgia State Wheelchair Grand Prix Championship in Peachtree City.

Spectators are encouraged to attend. Potential participants must be wheelchair users and current USTA members, according to a Walton Rehabilitation Health System news release. The event’s registration deadline is June 9.
