HFAP recently received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for a Change in Ownership after the Accreditation Association for Hospitals and Health Systems (AAHHS) purchased HFAP from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
This approval ensures AAHHS/HFAP retains its CMS deeming authority for the following accreditation programs: hospitals, critical access hospitals (CAHs), and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).
CMS will continue to recognize the accreditation of hospitals, CAHs and ASCs currently accredited under the AOA/HFAP program for the remainder of their terms of accreditation. In the future, all surveys with AAHHS/HFAP will be considered reaccreditation surveys for organizations previously accredited by AOA/HFAP, explains a media release from HFAP.
“Our team strived to create a seamless, integrated transition to best serve the needs of our accredited organizations and other stakeholders,” says Meg Gravesmill, MBA and CEO of AAHHS, in the release. “Our accredited organizations will not be required to undergo an Initial Deemed Status Survey, nor will there be any change in the dates of their triennial surveys.”
