Hanger’s Board of Directors has tapped Christopher B. Begley to serve as a director, effective immediately. Begley is the retired Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors and former Chief Executive Office of Hospira. As founding CEO, Begley reportedly oversaw Hospira’s 2004 spin-off from Abbott Laboratories and drove development of its business strategies and growth plans until 2012.
A news release from Hanger notes that prior to his time with Hospira, Begley served in senior leadership positions of Abbott’s Hospital Products Division, Abbott’s Chemical and Agricultural Products Division, Abbott Health Systems, and MediSense Inc. The release also notes that Begley currently serves as a director of Zimmer Inc, DeVry Inc, and Chairman of Hillshire Brands.
Vinit Asar, president and CEO of the Austin, Texas-based Hanger Inc, adds that Begley’s tenure as CEO of a global hospital products company with more than 40 years’ experience allow Begley to bring, “a deep understanding of the healthcare industry and proven expertise in operations and strategic growth.
