The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ, is making it easier for patients to purchase health care related items from the comfort of their own homes, says a statement from the facility.

Valley recently unveiled The Valley Health Marketplace, an online store offering a wide range of products, including home medical equipment, post-surgical and rehabilitation products, fitness videos and accessories, and nutritional supplements. It also offers nonmedical items, such as cooking and parenting books, baby products, videos, cosmetics, and gifts.

Rita Donato-Edwards, Valley’s director of retail strategies, says in the statement that health care retail is a new idea for hospitals, and the new online store enables Valley to extend the continuum of care beyond the hospital walls.

To encourage shoppers to try the new online shopping, Valley is offering a first-time discount of 25%, and every order ships for $4.95, says the statement. The store offers a free Healthy Rewards program, wherein members accumulate points based on retail purchases and receive award certificates, special offers, merchandise discounts, and special sale notifications.

Shoppers can browse health conditions for specific items related to the condition. Combining health information with products will help consumers when researching items, says the statement. Many of the items in the online store are products that may be hard to find.

Some of the store’s most popular items so far are nutritional supplements, orthopedic rehabilitation equipment, and nursery items, says the statement. The online store also offers a gift registry for new babies and expectant moms.

The statement advises Web visitors they can use the discount code VALLEY to get 25% off first-time orders.
