Dralla Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Allard USA founded by its president, Peter Allard, announces the recipients of grants geared toward giving individuals with physical challenges an unforgettable day.

The recipients for 2018 are: Adaptive Sports Foundation, Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico, Bay Area Outreach and Recreational Program, Camp Jabberwocky, Catalyst Sports, Jett Foundation, Kinetic Kids, and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

The first event will take place on June 29, and the other events will run through the spring of 2019, according to Dralla Foundation.

Among this year’s special events: a chance to watch more than 600 hot air balloons soar overhead from kayaks and rafts utilizing specialized equipment, riding in a hot air balloon that is wheelchair accessible, a ski and snowboard race that pairs children who have physical challenges with able-bodied athletes, and a day out on the ocean in a catamaran where wheelchair-dependent campers will feel the salt water and get sunshine while sitting on the netting between the hulls.

Additional events include an adaptive bike ride through California’s wine country ending in a festival, a bike camp where upon completion the participants are able to independently ride a traditional bike, an expo where the participants will have an opportunity to try different sports that utilize adaptive equipment (specifically, golf and climbing), and a 2-night trip for low-income children with disabilities to experience zip lining, ropes course, archery, a climbing tower, and more.

The next grant cycle begins in December when Dralla Foundation will begin accepting grant applications, and the submission deadline will be February 1, 2019. The awards will be announced in May.
