The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Board of Directors announces that its executive director, Frederick P. Somers, is retiring.

Somers served 32 years with Bethesda, Md-based AOTA, the past 13 as executive director.

“Mr Somers’ accomplishments in this role include sustained membership growth, eight years of strong financial performance and stability for the organization, and major advocacy successes on legislative and regulatory initiatives at both the federal and state levels,” according to a prepared statement issued by the Board of Directors and signed by AOTA President Amy J. Lamb. “We wish Mr Somers well in his retirement.”

Chief Financial Officer Chuck Partridge will serve as the interim executive director of the 62,000-member organization, and a national search for a new executive director of AOTA will begin immediately, states a media release from the AOTA.
