By effectively raising the awareness, value, and necessity of a comprehensive senior home safety assessment, Age Safe America has developed a unique market segment and certification all its own.

As one part of a very busy year, the Senior Home Safety Specialist was officially registered by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as a Certification Mark. In addition, the Senior Home Safety Specialist (SHSS) course had its 3rd revision; along with a newly designed CERTIFIED SHSS emblem that all graduates may use on marketing collateral and social sites. The new emblem along with USPTO registration has stepped up industry and consumer recognition of the credential. Incorporation of the Senior Home Safety Specialist certification into a nationally-recognized Occupational Therapy Doctoral Degree program curriculum even further demonstrates professional acceptance of the course.

This year saw further partnering with leading franchise organizations in the mobility equipment and home services markets; as well as home care, home health and hospice providers to train staff for implementation of comprehensive home safety assessments to improve outcomes, market positioning and differentiation.

Age Safe America, Director of Education Fritzi Gros-Daillon conducted many targeted webinars and workshops in the past year. She shared vital information on home safety, fall prevention and aging in place for the AARP, NRMLA reverse mortgage professionals, national MA plan provider members, national real estate companies, and county level aging agencies.

After 5 years, a re-do of the often referenced “Grab Bars are the New Seat Belts” campaign is being coordinated to coincide with our new Grab Bar training course expected out next month. Both these initiatives will Increase consumer and professional usage of the Age Safe Services Registry, requesting home services, from safety assessments to grab bar installation, and home modifications.
