Spectramed LLC announces the release of Unity, a two-channel neuromuscular stimulation device designed specifically for the treatment and rehabilitation of the swallowing musculature.

Unity is designed to combine both Guardian Dysphagia Therapy and VitalStim Therapy, according to Spectramed, a developer of continuing education and rehabilitation products focused on dysphagia rehabilitation (swallowing disorders).

Guardian dysphagia therapy treatments last 30 minutes and are performed usually in a rehab clinic by a certified speech language pathologist. The therapy is performed utilizing neuro-muscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to promote improved strength, timing, and reeducation of muscles used for swallowing, a media release from the Columbus, Ohio-based company explains.

“We are especially excited to release Unity because it is a unique device that combines two different clinical philosophies into one tool,” says vice president of sales, Matt Favazzo, in the release.
