United Spinal Association presents the 2010 Independence Expo – Long Island, a lifestyle-enhancing event designed to promote active living and independence for all people with disabilities and aging Americans.
It will be held on June 25 and 26 at the Suffolk County Community College Sports & Exhibition Complex in Brentwood, NY, and is free and open to the public.
Contemporary disability-related workshops and demonstrations will include:
- Employment, accessibility, and the workplace
- Accessible travel & transportation
- Research and technology (upper limb spasticity, new robotic arm, neurotechnology
- Veterans issues and benefits (for the veteran and spouse/dependent)
- Housing
- ADA @ 20! The Past, Present and Future
- Service animals
- Fitness, exercise ,and nutrition
- Consumer self-advocacy – The key to the future for complex rehab
The Expo will features 80-plus vendor exhibits.
Neurologist Atul Patel , MD, will be in attendance and present information on proper treatment options for individuals living with upper limb spasticity, which affects people with various disabilities and disorders, including multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and stroke.
