Helen Hayes Hospital’s Adapted Sports and Recreation Program, along with Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, NJ, are hosting a series of adaptive skiing clinics in January and February 2019.

The clinics, which will take place January 8 and 22, and February 12 and 26, from 3-6pm, are open to individuals of all abilities and experience levels who require adaptive tools and techniques to enjoy the sport.

The Adaptive Ski Program at Mountain Creek is the result of a 5-year planning effort of the resort’s nonprofit Adaptive Sports Program, whose board includes resort employees, local skiers and representatives of Helen Hayes Hospital’s Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program. The program was inspired by local adaptive athlete Nick Cerrato who, in conjunction with resort staffers, engaged in rigorous land and snow training to master the skills necessary to provide a safe and fun experience for all on the slopes, according to a media release from the West Haverstraw, NY-based hospital.

“We are enthusiastically looking forward to getting our participants on the slopes, with the hope they achieve independence and continue skiing after the program,” says Peter Gagliardo, Adapted Sports and Recreation Program Coordinator, in the release. “This is the start of wonderful partnership with Mountain Creek that we hope continues to flourish.”

Adaptive skiing at Mountain Creek will cost $60 per participant per session and will include a lift ticket, ski lesson, and equipment rental. To preregister, please contact Peter Gagliardo at 845-786-4950.
