Through July, individuals affected by a wide range of disabilities will have the opportunity to experience sports and recreational activities at Helen Hayes Hospital (HHH) that include rock climbing, fishing, waterskiing, hand cycling, and kayaking. The lineup of these summer events is presented by the physical rehabilitation department of the West Haverstraw, NY-based hospital.
The Adapted Sports and Recreation Program at HHH is a four-season program that aims to provide access to its target population of individuals affected by disability to adaptive sports and recreation, as well as provide education about those activities. Former patients of the hospital as well as individuals with disabilities within the community are welcome to participate in the events, according to a media release from HHH. Adapted activities offered throughout the year include gardening, handcycling, skiing, rowing, sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, softball, basketball, yoga, therapeutic horseback riding, as well as additional programs.
