Hector-Running-PhotoIn a recent news release, Mid America Rehabilitation Hospital reports that it will be hosting bi-lateral triathlete and three-time Ironman Hector Picard (pictured right) June 24 10:00 am CDT. Picard, a former HealthSouth patient and founder of Don’t Stop Living, LLC, is scheduled to provide a motivational presentation to community members, patients, and staff about overcoming obstacles following a disability.

The release notes that Picard’s arms were amputated 21 years ago as the result of a work-related electrical accident. Picard will reportedly travel 3,2000 miles across the country via bicycle in an effort to raise money to fund the purchase of prosthetic arms for Jameson Davis, a child who was born without hands or forearms.

The release also notes that Picard also seeks to raise awareness for individuals with disabilities and demonstrate that a person can still live life to the fullest despite disability. Picard began June 8 in Miami, Fla, and his journey will end in Spokane, Wash, July 13. During his trip, Picard will stop in a variety of cities, sharing his story with hospital patients and community groups.

Troy Dedecker, CEO, Mid America Rehabilitation Hospital, articulates the organization’s excitement in hosting Picard, calling him, “an inspiration to everyone, and he’s one of HealthSouth’s biggest success stories. We are thrilled that he is doing something so wonderful to empower others while giving hope to young Jameson.”
