Matthew Dawson, aged 16 years old, double amputee, and student from the College of West Angila will reportedly carry the Olympic Flame in the upcoming 2012 Olympic relay. According to the UK-based newspaper Eastern Daily Press (EDP) 24, Dawson will carry the flame through the Huntingdon stretch of the Olympic relay in July. Colin Wallis, MRCP, FRCPCH, MD, DCH, consultant in respiratory pediatrics, Great Ormond Street Hospital, nominated Dawson in response to Dawson’s determination and positive attitude.

Dawson notes that he is highly active and has played for the Wisbech Cricket Club for 4 years, “It has never held me back and I can get around most things.” EDP 24 adds that Dawson was notified via email when he was selected. Dawson will use his prosthetic legs to walk about 300 meters with the torch when it passes through Huntingdon, July 8.
