Physical therapists can train to be an advocate for the profession and meet with elected officials in Washington, DC, by participating in PT Day on Capitol Hill June 3-4. The event, presented by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), is free, but participants must register by May 14.
The APTA encourages members to bring their voice to Capitol Hill and rally for interests that affect the profession. PT Day on Capitol Hill is scheduled to coincide with the APTA NEXT Conference & Exposition, but participants can attend PT Day on Capitol Hill without attending NEXT.
According to the APTA’s event page, the registration process allows registration for either NEXT or PT Day on Capitol Hill or both, but registration must be complete by May 14 to be a part of PT Day on Capitol Hill.
APTA members can log in here and begin the registration process.
Special pricing for housing has also been arranged by the APTA for those who wish to attend PT Day on Capitol Hill, but reservations must be made by May 21. The special rates are available for NEXT attendees as well, accruing to the APTA website.
The schedule includes a June 3 session titled “Preparation for PT Day on Capitol Hill,” to help participants prepare for effective visits with their members of Congress. The session is mandatory for participants who plan to join June 4 lobbying efforts for issues that affect the PT profession.
A networking breakfast for the PT Rally on Washington will also be conducted June 4, for participants to be matched with delegates from their states who already have experience lobbying on Capitol Hill. A PT Rally on Washington is also scheduled for June 4, as are Capitol Hill visits from 9 am to 1 pm that same day.
