Gorbel Medical, headquartered in Fishers Run, NY, introduces its updated SafeGait 360° Balance and Mobility Trainer, as well as two brand-new devices, during the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM), February 17-20 in Anaheim, Calif.

New features to the SafeGait 360° Balance and Mobility Trainer include enhanced Patient Management Software, a proprietary Horizontal Lock mode designed to help make challenged focused therapy safer, and software that provides time-stamping and standardized export to facilitate research and patient data comparison.

The two new devices introduced by Gorbel during the meeting (at CSM booth #1216) are: the SafeGait ACTIVE Dynamic Mobility Trainer and the SafeGait EMBRACE Rehabilitation Harness, according to a company news release.

Gorbel Medical CEO Brian Reh explains in the release that, “ACTIVE provides cost-effective fall protection to patients who do not require body-weight support and are at risk for falls, but unlike ‘passive’ or ‘base’ devices, patients are not limited to only moving in the horizontal plane.”

The SafeGait ACTIVE’s proprietary design enables patients to safely perform ADL activities, including floor work and sit-to-stand, and gives therapists the ability to adjust fall sensitivity levels to increase challenge, the release continues.

The second product introduced at the APTA CSM show, the SafeGait EMBRACE, is a rehabilitation harness designed for use with a wide array of body-weight support and fall protection systems. In addition, per the release, the EMBRACE addresses traditional harness “pain points” by allowing patients to comfortably and safely practice gait, balance, and falls management exercises.

“We relied heavily on therapists’ input when designing the SafeGait EMBRACE,” states Betty Dolce, Gorbel Medical general manager, in the release. “Their expertise and contributions are evident in every aspect of the device; from the easy-to-apply design, to the comfortable material and securing features.”
